Refresh Session

Refresh Session

When user profile data is updated in the ROQ Console, it may not immediately update in the generated application. You can force an update to quickly update session data when there are changes in the ROQ console.

Update Sessions

ROQ session can be forced to update or refreshed by using one of these ways:

Call Endpoint

You can call the endpoint /api/auth/refetch-session path URL to update the session. For example, in the local development, you can call this URL:

http://localhost:3000/api/auth/refetch-session

The session data returned by the server is JSON:

{
    "session": {
        "id": "6ce651f6-6446-4210-b0c4-5f9445696e8e",
        "roqAccessToken": "<session_token>",
        "roqUserId": "4f4d4bc6-7fd8-439c-ad5c-d4a60e8aeaef",
        "user": {
            "firstName": "Manga",
            "lastName": "Man",
            "email": "john.doe@gmail.com",
            "timezone": "Asia/Bangkok",
            "locale": "en-US",
            "roles": [
                "library-administrator"
            ],
            "tenantId": "9e15aa37-4b28-4fae-8c19-2591a93e8e24"
        },
        "iat": 1691913517,
        "exp": 1691999917
    },
    "status": "authenticated"
}

Using Code

To force an update or refresh session using code, you can use refetchSessionHandler() API method from the @roq/nextjs package.

⚠️

For @roq\nextjs up to version 1.0.17, you must directly import refetchSessionHandler() as it is not exported by default.

// pages/api/refresh.ts
import type { NextApiRequest, NextApiResponse } from 'next';
import { withAuth, getServerSession } from '@roq/nextjs';

// this is a direct import change the path relative to the file
import { refetchSessionHandler } from "../../../node_modules/@roq/nextjs/dist/src/handlers/refetch-session";

async function handler(req: NextApiRequest, res: NextApiResponse) {
    await refetchSessionHandler(req, res);
}

export default function tokenHandler(req: NextApiRequest, res: NextApiResponse) {
    return withAuth(req, res)(handler);
}
